Creating art has never been my sole nor primary career path, but it has always been a constant in my life. Just like the present moment, it always flows with me. Finding flow is integral to my artwork because it is integral to my everyday.
Confidently leaning into uncertainty is an invaluable practice in building trust, especially as an artist. The act of taking bold risks is healing. It is a willful acknowledgement that while we may try to shape the future a certain way, the present may have other plans. I believe it is the job of an artist to realize and honour this limited control in what we create.
Flow is about committing to the present moment, a space that holds both inherent risk and reward. In my art, I explore both through simplicity. I use minimal tools to open maximum possibility. I never plan, pre-conceptualize, nor over-think my work. I embrace unpredictability and surrender control by trusting each stroke. My creative time is best spent making many pieces instead of over-working one. I find this results in more real creations that are representative of a particular moment in time.
I love the impact of minimalism. It evokes the simplicity and clarity of the skill/challenge balance where flow is born. This is where my art lives; in the intentional space between desired outcome and what naturally occurs.
